This year, we are extremely happy and proud to prepare the "15th Anniversary" of our World Play Day activities.
The 15th anniversary activities have been prepared in memory of our doyen teacher Prof. Dr. Ayla Oktay, who we will always remember for her valuable work in the field of Preschool Education in Turkey and who has always been with us with her valuable support for the celebration and dissemination of World Play Day in Turkey. In addition, the events were also dedicated to the memory of another valuable expert from Italy, Mr Giorgio Bartolucci Ghelli, who has always been with us with his valuable support in the celebration and dissemination of World Play Day in Turkey.
The earthquake in our country last year, centred in Kahramanmaraş, affected children and families the most in our ten provinces. On World Play Day, we wanted to continue the activities we prepared last year with the theme of nature in order to support children, their families and educators in reducing the effects of natural disasters through play. In order to be more aware of nature and to emphasise the importance of sustainability, this year we set our theme as "We Play for Nature: Sustainability".
"We Play for Nature: Sustainability", we collaborated with the Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanical Garden in Istanbul. Since the 5th and 10th events of World Play Day were held at the Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanical Garden, we wanted to realise our 15th anniversary with the cooperation of the Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanical Garden, an institution that supports this theme.
"We Play for Nature: Sustainability" theme in order to introduce Endemic Plants, "Drama Play, Workshops and Games about Endemic Plants" were prepared to be played in Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanical Garden between 21-24 May 2024 with the contributions of our 2nd and 3rd grade volunteer students of Marmara University Atatürk Faculty of Education, Department of Basic Education, Department of Preschool Teaching, 2023-2024 Academic Year.
On 26 May 2024, the "XVth World Play Day Panel" is planned to be held online. Both the online panel and the events can be found on the department pages.
Turkey World Play Day panel and social-cultural event coordination has been carried out by Dr. Lecturer Işık Kamaraj from our Department of Preschool Education for fifteen years. Işık Kamaraj from our Department of Preschool Teaching has been continuing for fifteen years.
