GENERAL INFORMATION

PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE

The Department of Preschool Education aims to contribute to the field by conducting scientific studies in the field of preschool education as well as training teachers to work in preschool education institutions. In order to achieve these goals, it offers 4-year undergraduate education as well as postgraduate (master's and doctorate) education.

The aim of the Department of Preschool Education is to train preschool teachers, academicians and other professionals who have basic field and professional knowledge, who can develop themselves, who are sensitive to the problems and needs of our country and the world, who have positive attitudes and behaviors towards children, who are sensitive to social and environmental problems, who act in accordance with professional ethics.

SHORT INTRODUCTION

It started education as a two-year associate degree program with 24 students in 1987 within the Istanbul School of Education. Three years later, in 1991-92, it was transformed into a four-year undergraduate department. In 1993-94 academic year, a master's degree program was started and in 1996, a doctoral program in Preschool Education was started. Our department, which has the appropriate staff to open a doctoral program in the field of preschool education, trains young research assistants and other doctoral students who start working in various universities of our country with this program.

The Department of Preschool Education has a rich teaching staff with the diversity and quality required by the discipline. There are thirteen research assistants, eight lecturers, seven assistant professors, two associate professors and four professors. In addition, Prof. Dr. Ayla Oktay Application Unit, which is the application kindergarten of the department, provides service.

Postgraduate Education

In the 1993-94 academic year, a master's degree program and in 1996 a doctoral program in Preschool Education were initiated. This program is one of the rare graduate programs in the field of preschool education. Information about the Master's and PhD programs with thesis in Preschool Education can be obtained from the Institute of Educational Sciences.

Fields of Study

Graduates can work as Preschool Teachers in kindergartens of public primary schools, independent kindergartens or private sector kindergartens.

TRAINING DURATION AND STUDENTS

Preschool Teaching Undergraduate Program is a 4-year program. There are approximately 700 undergraduate students in our department within the Department of Primary Education. Approximately 80 students study in the graduate programs of the Department of Preschool Teaching and the master's program is 2-3 years and the doctoral program is 3-6 years.
